"Every race has it's own land, Ireland for the Irish, England for the English, Europe for the Europeans, Russia for the Russians, China for the Chinese, & Africa for the Africans". "However I found that there is no such land called "Black Land". -JD Carr "Killa Cali"
One West Magazine recently spoke with the author of the blazing hot book "Killa Cali" A California State Of Mind (The First Of A Trilogy) JD Carr. Growing up in South Central Los Angeles and watching former drug kingpin "Freeway Ricky Ross" , Carr embarked on what would become an eventful lifestyle. Carr describes the book as a "Westcoast Bible". Crossing paths with the likes of Ross in federal prison, Carr says Freeway influenced him to put the pen to paper. "Freeway was teaching a writing class in prison, I took it for three years straight". "Shouts out to the big homie Freeway". Now a free man Carr has released the first installment of what could be the makings of a promising career. "Killa Cali" was released through Bookstand Publishing with a sale price of $12.95 available at Barnes & Noble and multiple online outlets.
In chapter 10 of "Killa Cali" Carr recalls moments when he came in contact with "Big Tee" the right-hand man of now infamous leader of the BMF crew Big Meech. Meech is now serving a 30 year sentence in federal prison for drug trafficking. "Even though that cat couldn't have been more than twenty five, he was on top of his game". "I remember it like it was yesterday", Carr explains as he recollects his observation of Big Tee. Carr reminisced about the time when Big Tee realized he was from California enlisting him to take a 500 Mercedez and a X5 BMW back to California. Carr transported the vehicles so BMF members would have fly rides to roll when they visited Cali. "I saw firsthand with my own two eyes that they were solid cats". "From the soldiers to the lieutenants up to Big Meech & his brother Tee", Carr further elucidated in chapter 10.
Having seen the lavish life Carr knew he wanted a taste of it. However being on the run from the law and finally being captured serving a seven year bid complicated matters. With his freedom taken away Carr decided to maximize his time. For three years he developed as the now published author we see today under the instruction of Ricky Ross. Carr talks about being inspired to tell his story and how the generation of today doesn't have the same code of ethics as the OG's. "They don't have any morals or loyalty & they snitchin". "I don't know what happened but they lost their connection with the OG's", Carr explained.
"Killa Cali" is a crash course how the streets can take you under on the Westcoast. The enticing lure of the street life, gangs, and hustling is a road that many can not resist. JD Carr takes readers on a non-stop roller coaster ride that has an ending in question as this still is his first installment.
Carr also has a screenplay in the works entitled "For The Good Of Evil" that readers can get a sneak peak of at the conclusion of "Killa Cali". "Screenplays turn into movies, so we're going to get these scripts out there", Carr explained.
